  1. I installed the same winter front that Mark did and in hind site, I would save my money and go with an old fashioned made to measure cardboard winter front. Cut out the slotted area on the top, picture 3 shows the slot cut out, use an exacto knife or a hacksaw blade, measure up a piece of cardboard about 15 7/8" x 11" and slide it down through the slot, tape the top in place with 2 pieces of duct tape. You can access the area below by reaching through the front grill below the screened area to tape etc. The factory piece appears to sit forward of the screen on the radiator to provide some airflow so you may need to cut an 'X' pattern or + pattern into the cardboard to provide some airflow and prevent overheating.πŸ€”
  2. I installed my wheel flares on my machine over the rock sliders without cutting the front lower portion of the rear wheel flare where it fits over the rock slider. This leaves a slight gap in this area but it isn't detremental to the function of the flare and not noticeable unless you look right at the area where the flare goes over the rock slider. The good news is the flares do a pretty good job of keeping the machine mud free even with 30x10 on the front and 30x11 on the rear.πŸ€”
  3. I tried to squeeze under a windfall and the tree dropped between the cab and the headache rack. The force sheared the two vertical stakes in the front of the box and bent the side braces as seen in the picture. The vertical stakes have a designed shear point as can be seen in the picture so that the headache rack itself and the box are not damaged at all. Brp sells parts 715003498 which it calls an "adjuster foot" for french interpretation of vertical stakes as a pair in a kit, pricey but a very quick repair. These vertical stakes should be the same for the side box extenders etc. so if you have a misshap some parts are available. It does not sell the side braces but those are made of soft steel and can be bent back into shape with a hammer and a piece of 2x4. There was a bit of paint flaking where the worst bends were but a bit of spray paint will fix that. FYI πŸ˜₯
  4. When I bought my 2019 Defender XT Cab HD10, I checked into the locking front axle, it is available on the Defender XMR, so it is available from BRP but pricey. I had mine out for some bird hunting and was impressed with the deep holes it went through so far no winching at all. I avoided the longer muskeg stretches where the weight of the machine would result in a stuck job. I posted my build in the build section. FYIπŸ™‚
  5. I received an email from tireject stating that the product becomes ineffective at -10F/-23C but does not freeze solid so it does not affect wheel balance below that temperature. Once above -10F it is effective once again, my take away is the product becomes too viscous below -10F to properly seal the hole but is unaffected by freezing temperatures. Information for those of us that might use the product where freezing temperatures occur.πŸ˜‰
  6. I would guess that it's similar to the stuff that the automotive industry uses, sometimes referred to as sound insulation blankets sold in rolls?
  7. This looks like an interesting water based product, does anyone know if it freezes in the winter time during subzero temperatures? Does freezing damage the product?πŸ€”
  8. I am not sure but on one of the BRP videos they mention more and better sound insulation, that is the the shiny stuff that we see. I suspect they closed in more of the open areas and used a thicker or better insulation material to reduce the sound and heat transfer? The only way to tell would be to compare the insulation part numbers or do a side by side comparison with the 2020.πŸ€”
  9. Check out the defender build section for more info.
  10. The dealer mentioned that the 2020 Defenders have a brake hold assist for parking on hills that supposedly holds the brakes when engaged. This would be a must have if it could be retrofitted to the older models. I saw an ad on a Utv website that mentioned it as well. Does anyone have any info on this or a option part number?πŸ€”
  11. If you need a temporary solution once you locate the heater hoses you can place a small clamp on one of the hoses. Make sure you don't damage the hose with too much force, this will stop the flow of coolant like the heater control valve. Your machine should be on warranty so a trip to the dealer might be easier?πŸ™„
  12. The 2019 Cab comes with the same standard option as many of the non cab models, its called "220" air conditioning. In the days prior to any cars having AC all the cars had the 260 standard option which was 2 windows open and 60 miles per hour. If this was a serious question the coolant flow to the heater core is controlled by a heater control valve and electric actuator. With the temperature control knob at the "off" or far left position the valve should be fully closed and the heater core should remain cool when the temp control is rotated clockwise to increase the temperature the control valve should rotate from fully closed to fully open at maximum temperature control knob. If you can feel the heater core with the temperature control selector to the minimum or off position the core should be cool or cold, when you rotate the selector to maximum the heater control valve should open all the way and the core should become hot with the coolant flow from the engine. If you can locate the heater control valve and actuator you should be able to rotate the valve manually if its stuck open and you can't free it up it may need to be replaced. If it moves freely by itself but not by the electric actuator; the actuator or the selector may be at fault. The fuses are located behind the right side of the heating unit check those and check for any loose wires or connections. If you can't get to the core check air temperature or the two heater hoses to see if your heater control valve and actuator work? The heater control valve assembly appears to be at the rear of the heater, hint follow the heater hoses from the engine to the cab??? If everything checks out and its still hot you may have to revert to the "220" method until the outside air temperature gets near zero.πŸ˜‰
  13. Check and see where you are on the spring adjusters or cams, if on the lowest setting that's it for the softest setting on the stock setup. If not, you can drop to the lower cam settings using the supplied wrench. Moving the cam is much easier if the machine is jacked up allowing the shock and spring to fully extend. You will loose about 1" of clearance going from the highest to the lowest setting on the cam. The length of travel of the suspension is controlled by the stroke of the shock so longer springs won't change anything? I ride with my spring adjusters set at the highest setting so that I get maximum clearance and still find the ride very compliant. Body roll can be good or bad; if too much body roll on a sidehill you will feel like you are going to roll over and the same can happen in a soft spot. My 2019 HD10 Defender XT Cab is set up very similar with your XMR in height (15.5") except that I use much more aggressive tires (30" Cryptid standard on the XMR in Canada)for the soft stuff. Does your XMR have the option for locking up the front end or is it the Visco lock setup? I couldn't tell from the video. Check your tire pressure and set it where you feel you like it, the lower the pressure the more squat or footprint you get but you stand the chance of damaging the rim or popping a bead if you get too low! The increase in sidewall flex can help you roll over rocks and logs instead of bouncing off. There are a number of suppliers for springs and shocks, I have used the Elka stage 1 on my 1000 Outlander XT and liked that setup but they are pricey.πŸ˜‰ Enjoy the ride and experiment is all part of the ownership experience
  14. Nice video, I find that a bit more momentum, forward speed helps you to maintain your line and reduces the unexpected changes in direction, but experience will help with that choice. Too much speed can result in you landing on the roof.
  15. Just received the new promo from Canam in Canada: The new Defender Limited is offered with AC as previously noted A new model Defender Pro X has 28" tires and 13" of clearance A new Defender Taskmaster was shown with a flatbed for pallet handling etc. The rebate in Canada for some of the 2019 defenders appears to be $1500 and/or an additional year of warranty I think it had 21 models so pretty much a huge choice and an application for almost everyone, and I didn't check the specs so I might have missed some???
  16. I saw a 2020 Defender Xmr in the show room that was sold last week in Edmonton, 10 more Hp, different gauge panel? and the rear plate where the hitch receiver was different. Probably depends on the dealer orders and his place in the queue based on the volume of sales?πŸ˜“
  17. As I stated in my two previous posts some jump at clutch engagement is to be expected add to this callibration of the itc (intelligent throttle control) which has a slight delay built-in (no cable to throttle body connection) and some machines will be more jumpy than others. Unless you buy a machine with a torque converter or manual transmission not much will change even when going to other manufacturers with the same type of Cvt system. Using work mode slows down the throttle response so the machine is less jumpy on rough ground at low speed. I use work mode and low range for loading and unloading off the trailer and find this works for me since I don't stop when climbing the ramps. I have learned how to control the ITC and barely notice the jerkiness even with 30" tires. Another poster mentioned that the dealer said there was a different primary spring? I haven't seen the specs on the new spring but if is softer it will engage the clutch at a lower RPM which might work better for a stock machine on a farm or acreage where a stiffer spring would increase the RPM at engagement which might work better for a machine witha heavy load and or larger tires.πŸ˜‰
  18. Look in defender builds section, lots of good info:2019 Defender XT HD 10 Cab lift and 30" tiresπŸ˜‰
  19. I installed the factory BRP side mirrors on the cab model, pricey but they have a swivel in case they contact a branch etc. I used the outside mirrors because I have the Canam headache rack and if anything is secured to it you will not see much with a center inside mirror? FYI 2019 Defender XT HD 10 Cab lift and 30" tires
  20. You put two fingers, one on each side, under the front of the hood panel and pull forward in the same direction as the slope of the panel about 1 inch. Lift the panel once disengaged and it swivels up and back towards the windshield. Reverse the procedure for closing, drop the panel down and push back to secure it again? FYIπŸ˜‰
  21. 2019 Defender XT Cab HD10, with stock 27" tires the factory recommended tire pressure is 14 psi front and 18 psi rear. I have 30x10x14 front and 30x11x14 rear Cryptid tires on now and am 15 psi front and 18 psi rear with light loads. I might consider going down to 12 psi front and 15 psi rear in the future but no lower. At my current inflation pressures the ride is very nice on hard pack or trail so I don't see the need to lower the inflation unless we do a lot of muskeg riding later in the fall where a bit more sidewall flex might be advantageous. If you are doing fairly fast trail riding on a rutted trail I would definitely error on the higher side for air pressure to prevent the tire from rolling under when cornering and breaking the bead. I used to run 4 psi all around on my 1000 Outlander that had 28x12x12 all around but that machine weighed less than 1/2 of the Defender when loaded and I usually rode slowly 10-30 mph, however, I never had any tire problems.🐌 FWIW
  22. Depends on where you live? I live in Alberta where an Atv license and liability insurance are required when you are on public lands where most of us ride, as a result I carry liability, fire and theft but not collision. If you ride on private property insurance and plates are not required. πŸ™„
  23. This is a Canam bolt on option 715003109 called the higher front receiver hitch mount, it bolts in as per instructions. I cut the plastic shield that you have to remove for this install and reinstalled it as a two piece so that it still keeps the mud from flying up onto the radiator. The hitch is a Reese 3 hole adjustable for height, I leave it installed in front and if necessary I can use it in the back for a regular tow hitch as well. The trailer you see is a light tandem and the Defender manuevers it easily and into nice tight places. The front hitch is a good option for backing a light boat trailer into the lake as well. FYI
  24. Extra 10 hp, better ride, better clearance and quieter are all good improvements, IMO
